I am not much of a sports fan, but the 2012 Olympic Games are of great interest to me, especially when I think about their connection to the ancient Greek games.
And I should confess I was somewhat ignorant about what their association to history and culture.
But in researching about this topic and listening to historian Diana Uribe, I learned just how important they are for us as western civilization and as guardians of our heritage.
The impact that the French Revolution in 1789 had on western civilization cannot be underestimated.
It is in large part the foundation for how most of our governments work today and it is remembered each year on July 14th all over France during their national holiday, Bastille Day.
Last week (July 14th) France celebrated their national day that we know as Bastille Day, in remembrance of the event that occurred during The French Revolution in 1789.

During La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) or Le quatorze juillet (The 14th of July) as the people of France know it, there are fantastic events like fireworks and parades throughout the country and the city of Paris.
But if you happen to be in Paris any time of the year, visiting some of the historical sites that witnessed the important events of the Revolution is a fascinating experience.
Today the United States of America stops in celebration of the Fourth of July, the Independence Day, its birthday!
I am sure though most Americans were taught the relevance and history of this memorable date, it’s a very interesting subject to cover for the rest of the people of the world.
Even more for Latin Americans, because it is all connected to the independence processes that would soon occur throughout the American Continent.
So if you are in the US or you’re planning a trip there, it’s key to know how it all came to be!
I wouldn’t have enough space here to fit all that can be said about Ephesus.
But if you’re interested in the ancient world and visiting what’s left of it during your cultural travel, this early city is one of the most amazing places in antiquity.
I’d heard about Ephesus in passing when somebody mentioned it relating to the Bible when I was little, but to be quite honest with you I never knew whether Ephesus was a real place or not.
