I received some really great comments last week about my article on Ephesus, the ancient Greco-Roman city in Turkey!
Which is amazing and I am now finishing this three-part series with the visit to this fantastic historical site.
Yes, I did try to squeeze it all in two posts, but really, how could I? We’d be missing out on a whole lot of interesting information!
I wouldn’t have enough space here to fit all that can be said about Ephesus.
But if you’re interested in the ancient world and visiting what’s left of it during your cultural travel, this early city is one of the most amazing places in antiquity.
I’d heard about Ephesus in passing when somebody mentioned it relating to the Bible when I was little, but to be quite honest with you I never knew whether Ephesus was a real place or not.
I recently updated my Pinterest board called Travel Souvenir Obsession dedicated to all my cultural travel souvenirs at home!
And in doing this exercise I re-discovered how heartwarming travel souvenirs can be, they remind you of where you’ve been, of the unforgettable people you’ve met and the fantastic experiences you’ve had.
Many times you just look at this small object and can’t help but smile, because they really are more than just a $5 kitsch memento, they even lift your spirit.
I’ve told you before about how I’m a huge fan of Rick Steves’. He provides so much free information, that you can actually go to Europe on your own and have a fantastic experience.
Today I want to cover one of his most interesting cultural travel products: His iPhone apps which I find really neat, very well organized and with amazing graphics and resources.

Think of them like a mini version of the information he provides in his guidebooks, podcasts and tv shows.
I recently came across the Spanish term “viajes de autor” and looking for it in English I couldn’t find a literal translation, though it seems that “expert led tours” in English, refers to it.
In an article about why travel agencies don’t work for me, one of my biggest concerns is that personal interests and cultural travel is largely overlooked.
